I don’t know what Mr Ibu’s beef or problem with himself (that’s if he even has any) is o! But the iconic and funny (and crazy?) Nollywood comedy actor was recently seen attending an event virtually naked. Mr Ibu attended the event wearing only pants. Who does that?
Tragedy struck yesterday in Ukwu Uko evening market at Umuejinwaoke Umudagu village, Mbieri, Mbaitolu Local Government Area, Imo as a tree fell in the ever busy market. A total of 31 persons were killed and 16 injured in the tragic event which occurred during a heavy rainstorm in the area.
Thirty one persons were killed when a tree at the Ukwu Uko evening market at Umuejinwaoke Umudagu village, Mbieri, Mbaitolu Local Government Area, Imo, fell on them.
16 others sustained degrees of injuries during the incident, which was caused by rainstorm on Thursday night.
A resident of the community, Mr Nnaemeka Emenyonu, said in Owerri that the tree fell on the affected persons around 8:00 p.m.
He said the tree also destroyed the village hall.
“The big tree fell suddenly on 31 people, who died at the spot and injured 16 others. Those injured were taken to hospital.
“The victims include two sisters, who sell tomatoes. Honestly, this is a saddest event in the history of our community,” he said.
The traditional ruler of the community, Eze Godwin Duru, lamented that such a tragic incident had never occurred in the community.
“I do not know what to say. God, what can we call this?, My people were destroyed within a twinkle of an eye. what a pity,” he said.
The tree which fell around 8pm, Thursday night, during a rainstorm also left scores of persons injured and about 7 others either buried in the rubble or missing.
The size of the disaster was occasioned by the fact that under the tree is a location of a popular night market described as “Ukwu Uko market” meaning the market under the ‘Uko’ tree.
The market usually started at about 3pm everyday and terminated at about 9.30pm or 10pm.
The tree, had been a source of concern to the youths of the village who had repeatedly called for its removal to no avail. Elders of the community had described the tree as an ancestral landmark that should not be removed.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Joy Elemoko, declined comment on the incident after several efforts to get the command’s reaction to the issue. (NAN)
Chris Kelly, half of the 1990s kid rap duo Kris Kross who made one of the decade’s most memorable songs with the frenetic “Jump,” has died, according to authorities. He was 34.
Chris, also known as Mac Daddy, was found unconscious in his Atlanta home yesterday afternoon and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. A police spokeswoman said it appears it may have been a possible drug overdose. May his soul rest in peace.
